Τον Οκτώβριο του 2024 86.945 αιτούντες άσυλο για πρώτη φορά (πολίτες εκτός Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης) ζήτησαν διεθνή προστασία στις χώρες της Ένωσης, μία μείωση 24% σε σύγκριση με τον Οκτώβριο του 2023 (114.890).

Οι Σύροι παραμένουν η μεγαλύτερη ομάδα αιτούντων άσυλο.

Η Γερμανία, η Ισπανία, η Ιταλία και η Γαλλία έλαβαν το 73% των αιτούντων άσυλο για πρώτη φορά.

Συνολικά 3.295 ασυνόδευτοι ανήλικοι υπέβαλαν αίτηση ασύλου για πρώτη φορά στην Ένωση, με τους περισσότερους από αυτούς να προέρχονται από τη Συρία (1.095) και το Αφγανιστάν (450).

Η χώρα της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης που έλαβε το μεγαλύτερο αριθμό αιτήσεων ασύλου από ασυνόδευτους ανηλίκους ήταν η Γερμανία (1.010), ακολουθούμενη από την Ελλάδα (445), την Ισπανία (340), την Ολλανδία (325) και το Βέλγιο (295).
