Το 2022 το 60,8% των μαθητών της ανώτερης δευτεροβάθμιας γενικής εκπαίδευσης σε όλη την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση (ΕΕ) σπούδασε 2 ή περισσότερες ξένες γλώσσες ως υποχρεωτικά μαθήματα ή ως υποχρεωτικές επιλογές προγράμματος σπουδών.

Σε 9 χώρες της ΕΕ περισσότερο από το 90% των μαθητών της ανώτερης δευτεροβάθμιας γενικής εκπαίδευσης σπούδασαν 2 ή περισσότερες ξένες γλώσσες. Αυτό ισχύει για όλους σχεδόν τους μαθητές της ανώτερης δευτεροβάθμιας γενικής εκπαίδευσης στη Γαλλία (99,7%), τη Ρουμανία και τη Σλοβακία (98,9%) και την Τσεχία (98,8%).

Αντίθετα, η Πορτογαλία (7,5%), η Ιρλανδία (9,4%) και η Ιταλία (24%) κατέγραψαν τα χαμηλότερα ποσοστά μαθητών που σπουδάζουν 2 ή περισσότερες ξένες γλώσσες.
